💬Discord Makes Public Server Chats Searchable Across 63,000 Communities

Your Discord chats might show up on Google soon

Discord is about to turn some of its public chatter into something Google can find. Starting mid-December, selected messages from public channels in Discoverable Servers will appear in search engine results, and every eligible server gets its own web page. If you run a community server, this one is your call. Admins choose which channels get included, and nothing gets indexed unless you let it through. Members can opt out of having their messages made publicly searchable. The catch? Plenty of people never open settings, so check your defaults before December rolls around. The numbers matter here. More than 63,000 Discoverable Servers are eligible, and each page features automated summaries of active public channels. Published messages drop usernames and avatars, but the content itself stays readable. Private servers, DMs, group DMs, and teen accounts are excluded. The option is off by default in the EU, U.K., Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea because of legal restrictions. The backlash is loud. Some users worry that messages get pulled far outside their original context, and others want to know whether the conversations could end up training AI models. Discord says you can manage preferences in settings, and that debate will keep running.
